PPS are set up to push the boundaries further and offer true customisation services. We see customisation as being when an individual piece of hardware, having been configured to spec is then modified in some way to either for a specific site or user.

Our experience of customisation spans the desktop, server and EPoS environments. We regularly deliver projects where all the components for a large installation site are collated, hardware built, receive a generic software load, and then, one or two days before installation, we will customise this equipment to actually clone the site in question at close of business that day. This means that we do as much work as possible in the config. facility, greatly reducing the impact on the end-user when we go to the actual site for the installation.

Customisation is employed for three main reasons: It enhances the user experience; it drives down costs, as generally work in the configuration centre is less costly than work on site, and it reduces risk, as work in the configuration centre is generally more process driven and repeatable than that carried out on site.
